It feels like we're forever writing article about 'Ghostbusters' movies being delayed. Time for another. It comes as no surprise that the eagerly anticipated follow-up to 'Ghostbusters: Afterlife' has been pushed back. The fact filming had been going on until fairly recently suggested that a 2023 release was unlikely since we're now in August already.

Sony Pictures broke the news last week that they have comprehensively reshuffled their release calendar. The new Ghostbusters instalment is now slated to hit the screens over the Easter weekend, moving into the release slot originally planned for 'Spider-Man: Beyond the Spiderverse' on March 29, 2024.

The forthcoming sequel promises a stellar lineup, uniting actors from the Afterlife sequel like Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Logan Kim, and Celeste Oโ€™Connor. Plus 'Ghostbusters' originals Ernie Hudson, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, and Annie Potts are set to return, alongside franchise newcomers Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind.

Production began last March here in the UK, and continued for approximately three months. During the final stages of production, additional filming took place in several locations across New York City.

Filming predominantly occurred at Leavesden Studios in Hertfordshire, serving as a stand-in for New York City - the famous setting from the original film. The last film's post-credits sequence hinted at the franchise's return to NYC, showing ECTO-1 traversing the iconic Brooklyn Bridge.

The sequel also builds upon a narrative hinted at the end of the last film, featuring Ernie Hudson's character, Winston Zeddemore, now a successful businessman overseeing the original Ghostbusters base and the ecto containment unit.

The upcoming plot is speculated to extend the storyline of the Spengler family introduced in the 2021 film. Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace, who portray Callie and her two children, the grandchildren of original Ghostbuster Egon, are expected to bridge the franchise's past and present in this next instalment.
